ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
REPORT ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
2009-2010
The Millennium School has been actively involved in promoting environmental awareness among its pupils. As a member school of the Emirates Environmental Group, Dubai Municipality and The International Environmental Group, the school has participated in many of their activities organized during the year.
Students have been constantly briefed, guided and monitored to ensure awareness of the environment.
The main aims and objectives have been -
a) To contribute positively to the advancement and development of Dubai.
b) To assist concerned authorities in increasing the level of public awareness.
c) To encourage children to help and protect the environment.
d) To propagate community waste reduction and recycling waste.
To facilitate these schemes, the students and teachers have been actively involved in many programmes coordinated by the EEG, Dubai Municipality and the IEG institutions.
Environmental Drawing Competition:
200 students took part in a painting competition on the theme of ‘Water Conservation’ & Wastage’ & ‘Save Water’ organised by the Ministry.
Teacher’s Workshop :
EEG ‘s programme for the Teacher’s workshop on Low-Carbon World was held on 30th March 2009 and was attended by Mrs. Meera Menon
Enviro-Spellathon Test :
Dubai Municipality this year has introduced the Enviro-spellathon test for students of grade 2 to grade 8. All our students participated and more than 90% of them were awarded ‘Excellent ‘and ‘Good’ certificates.
The Inter School Environmental Public Speaking Competition :
EEG’s annual Inter School Environmental Public Speaking Competition was held on April 27th and 28th This year our school sent two groups of girls to compete in both categories. We were the proud winners in the Sub Senior category and Mandira Auplish of grade 9 was declared the ‘best speaker’.
Can collection drive:
The Can collection drive, organized once again this year by the E.E.G, was a great success in our school. Our students were very enthusiastic and excelled by collecting 192 Kilograms of cans.
Newspaper collection drive:
Our enthusiastic students of the senior school also took part in the newspaper collection drive and managed to collect approximately 500 kilograms of
newspapers for recycling, thus reducing biodegradable waste.
