Prelude to the Hamdan Awards for the year 2009 – 2010
‘Awards are a reflection of excellence within one’s self.’
This year The Millennium School hosted a preliminary function as a prelude to the Hamdan Award for overall excellence inititiated by His highness Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum . More than eighty participants from schools across Dubai participated in this event which was organized by Mr. Mohammed Nasif, Head of the Arabic Department at the Millennium School under the guidance of our principal Mr. Michael Guzder.
The function began with a welcome address by our the Principal who introduced Madam Hassa, the official from the KHDA and Mrs. Laila Mohebi, Director of the Awards and Accolades section of the GEMS Corporate Office to the parents of the prospective Hamdan Awardees. This was followed by an IT presentation on the rules and regulations and a detailed explanation of the procedures and criteria for participation in the Awards. This was highly appreciated by the participants and their parents as it gave them concrete guidelines on the necessary preparations to be made in order to qualify.
Mrs. Vyas, mother of Simran Ved Vyas, the Hamdan Award winner for the year 2008 - 2009 spoke of her experience she had when her daughter participated in the awards the previous year. This was followed by a highly interactive session between officials and participants. Queries on varied issues pertaining to the criteria for winning the award were put forth by parents. Clarifications sought on how their child should be guided so as to fit the set criteria. It was indeed a very informative session for all concerned.
